Marvin Winans, the reverend who eulogized Whitney Houston at her funeral earlier this year, was beaten and robbed Wednesday at a gas station in Detroit, Michigan.

Police say at least three black men attacked Winans as he stood outside his 2012 Infiniti SUV pumping gas. The assailants fled the scene with Winans car, his $15,000 gold Rolex watch and around $200 in cash.

The 54-year-old suffered bruising and minor cuts. He appeared on a local news station Wednesday night to address his attackers. "Your life has to be bigger than sitting in a gas station and robbing innocent people," Winans said.

"I'm just saddened that it has come to this," he added. "This kind of nonsense just has to stop. It's just the savageness of what's happening in the street."

In addition to being the pastor at Perfecting Church, Winans is a popular gospel singer. He released his first solo album, Alone but Not Alone, in 2007 and currently has a new single, Let the Church Say Amen, in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard gospel charts.
